Officials in Muncy Creek Township state they have not received any plans or applications for a proposed data center project, despite reports suggesting half the project is located there. This comes after developer DANKO Holdings II claimed "deemed approval" in neighboring Muncy Township due to an alleged failure to schedule a conditional-use hearing. The project involves three data center buildings and has raised local concerns about energy and water use.
Muncy Creek Township officials, including Supervisor Eric Newcomer, have publicly stated they have not received any plans, permits, or zoning requests for a proposed data center project. This declaration comes after Muncy Township Solicitor Joseph F. Orso III reportedly indicated that approximately half of the project is situated within Muncy Creek Township.
The proposed development, spearheaded by Williamsport-based DANKO Holdings II, LP/Fishlips, LLC., includes plans for three data center buildings, water storage, a treatment facility, and supporting infrastructure near the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. The latest development in the project involves a legal notice filed by the developer, asserting that the project received "deemed approval" in Muncy Township due to the township's alleged failure to schedule a conditional-use hearing within the timeframe mandated by Pennsylvania's Municipalities Planning Code.
While the project's supporters highlight potential investment and job creation, critics have voiced concerns regarding transparency, high energy consumption, water usage, and the rapid pace of project approvals. Muncy Creek Township had previously adopted an ordinance last year to amend its zoning regulations specifically for data center accessory uses.
