During the hearing, citizens presented contrasting viewpoints. Supporters, like resident Kimber Saterella, emphasized the potential for economic growth, better-paying jobs, and a stronger tax base. Conversely, opponents, including Timothy McLaughlin and protester Sherry Day, raised concerns about environmental impacts, the suitability of locations like the ACE Basin, and the need for additional infrastructure such as a "mega power plant" to support the data centers.
The public meeting was limited to 10 speakers, leading to protesters being forced outside, where they continued to voice their objections. Following the approval of the new ordinance by the County Council, members were escorted by police to their vehicles amidst ongoing protests.
