Killeen reader criticizes putting public hearings at end of meetings
A Killeen reader criticized the City Council for placing public hearings, including rezoning matters related to potential data center restrictions, near the end of a lengthy meeting. The council had directed staff to develop an alternative to regulating data centers through conditional-use permits.
A reader writing to The Killeen Daily Herald criticized the Killeen City Council for scheduling public hearings after nearly six hours of routine business, spending items, staff matters and a vote on a new city manager. Residents waiting to speak on three rezoning cases had to remain through most of the meeting before addressing the council.
The letter also referenced a joint meeting where the council approved a motion directing staff to return with an alternative to restricting data centers through conditional-use permits. The writer said the mayor indicated he would discuss moving public hearings earlier in future meetings and argued that the meeting format showed insufficient respect for residents.
