A Google AI data center project in Franklin Furnace, Scioto County, Ohio, is moving forward, with ground clearing currently underway. Scioto County Commissioner Mary Smith reported that construction on the site is expected to begin before the end of this year.
The initial phase of the project, estimated at $1 billion, was planned for one building. However, current plans indicate that at least two buildings will be constructed as part of the 500,000 square foot data center complex. Commissioner Smith met with the construction company, Holding Construction, last week, and stated that the construction process is anticipated to continue for several years due to the constant evolution of technology in these facilities.
According to the construction company, the project is expected to employ approximately 3,500 construction workers on-site during its peak.
