'I'm gonna do what the people want': New council member elected as voters oust Yukon Mayor
Yukon voters recalled Mayor and Ward 3 Councilmember Brian Pillmore, with Joe Phillips winning the seat by a wide margin. Residents cited concerns about transparency and a city zoning change connected to a proposed data center, while Phillips said stopping the project will be his top priority.
Yukon voters removed Mayor and Ward 3 Councilmember Brian Pillmore in a recall election, electing Joe Phillips with more than 1,600 votes compared with 369 for Pillmore. Residents said months of public frustration centered partly on the city’s handling of a zoning change that enabled a proposed data center to purchase land.
Phillips said he campaigned on transparency and intends to do what residents want, making efforts to stop the data center his top priority. The Yukon City Council will select a new mayor from among its members, followed by a mayoral election scheduled for February.
