The Charlotte City Council extended the city’s data center moratorium by 11 months. The pause, which was scheduled to expire Nov. 5, will now remain in effect until mid-October 2027 as demand for data center facilities grows.

Residents cited potential environmental impacts as a reason for continuing the moratorium. The extension was discussed in a WFAE local news roundup that also covered Donald Trump’s visit to Rock Hill, a deadly week in Charlotte and the Charlotte Hornets’ planned retirement of Muggsy Bogues’ number.
