Governor Jim Pillen of Nebraska has established a 17-member Data Center Task Force to evaluate the effects of data center development on the state's critical resources. Authorized by Executive Order (EO 26-17) and managed by the Nebraska Department of Water, Environment and Energy (DWEE), the task force will focus on the impact on water resources, power grids, and local infrastructure.
Governor Pillen emphasized the importance of balancing the booming data center industry with the preservation of Nebraska's land, electricity, and water. The task force, composed of experts from various industries, aims to ensure sound decision-making for future development.
Additionally, the group will assist county officials by providing necessary tools, zoning guidelines, and policy frameworks to effectively manage data center expansion. The first meeting of the task force is expected to take place next month. Key appointees include leaders from utility districts, county commissions, and major companies like Berkshire Hathaway Energy, Tenaska, Kiewit Infrastructure Group, and HDR.
