The Manitowoc County Planning and Parks Commission has approved a moratorium on data center development permits, which still requires final approval from the County Board. This move was prompted by efforts from the Towns of Mischicot, Two Rivers, and Two Creeks to temporarily suspend new data center construction.

The Manitowoc County Planning and Parks Commission recently approved a moratorium to temporarily suspend the issuance of permits and approvals for new data center construction or placement. This decision, which involves a text amendment to Chapter 8 of the Manitowoc County Code concerning General Zoning and Land Use Regulations, must still be ratified by the Manitowoc County Board before it can officially take effect. The County Board has an organizational meeting scheduled for April 21.
The push for this temporary suspension originated earlier in the year from a collaborative effort by the Town of Mischicot, the municipality of Two Rivers, and the Town of Two Creeks. The proposed ordinance specifically aims to halt the receipt of applications and the granting of all permits or approvals for data center developments within the county.
