Ohio Valley Environmental Advocates to host Harrison County talk on data center impacts
Ohio Valley Environmental Advocates will host a public presentation in Harrison County on August 29 focusing on the environmental, health, and safety impacts of data centers. Ohio Valley Environmental Advocates (OVEA) is set to host a public presentation on August 29 at the Puskarich Public Library in Cadiz, Harrison County, Ohio. The event will feature Randi Pokladnik, Ph.D., a board officer with OVEA, who will discuss the environmental, health, and safety concerns related to the expansion of data centers in the region.
The presentation will cover a range of critical issues, including the significant water usage by data centers, challenges with wastewater disposal, and the presence of PFAS, commonly known as "forever chemicals." Dr. Pokladnik will also address light and noise pollution, the reliance on fracked gas for powering data centers, and the associated air pollution.
Additionally, the talk will highlight plans for 10 carbon dioxide Class VI wells in Harrison County, raising concerns about their potential environmental impact. The presentation aims to inform the community about these various impacts as data center development continues in the area.
