An ad hoc committee in Butte, Montana, released a report largely favorable to a proposed $1 billion Sabey data center, highlighting potential jobs and tax revenue while downplaying water and electricity concerns. Despite the report, public criticisms and watchdog group concerns persist, with some arguing the committee was biased and that more direct information from Sabey is needed.

An ad hoc committee in Butte, Montana, concluded a six-week fact-finding mission on a proposed $1 billion Sabey data center, issuing a report that was largely favorable to the project. The committee, established by Butte-Silver Bow Chief Executive J.P. Gallagher, presented its findings to Butte-Silver Bow commissioners, stating the data center could create 200 jobs, generate up to $4.5 million in annual local tax revenue, and would not excessively strain water resources or significantly raise rates for existing NorthWestern Energy customers. However, the report has failed to alleviate criticisms from many Butte residents and watchdog groups, who contend the committee was biased towards data center proponents. Erik Nylund, a board member of Butte Watchdogs, criticized the report for relying on "vague assurances" from the developer and allowing limited public comment. While the report acknowledges potential drawbacks, such as strain on rental markets, and notes that some findings are based on unfinalized plans from Sabey, the committee defended its work as extensive and fact-based. Sabey Data Corp., based in Tukwila, Washington, plans to build the data center on 606 acres in the Montana Connections Business Park.
