Rutherford County is considering a one-year pause on new data center land applications in unincorporated areas. The county Planning Commission unanimously recommended the moratorium to give officials time to develop regulations for large facilities, following resident concerns about electricity consumption, water use, infrastructure needs and effects on surrounding communities.

The proposal was scheduled for a public hearing before the Rutherford County Commission on Oct. 15 at the Rutherford County Courthouse in Murfreesboro. If approved, the moratorium would temporarily block new data center development applications while county officials establish a regulatory framework.
