We Energies has filed an engineering plan for the proposed 750-megawatt Fox North Energy Center, a natural gas power plant at its existing facility in Wrightstown. The project is intended to address rising Wisconsin electricity demand, much of which regulators attribute to planned data centers, but it remains years away from construction and requires state approval.

We Energies proposed the Fox North Energy Center, a 750-megawatt natural gas-fired generating plant adjacent to its existing Fox Energy Center in Wrightstown. The engineering plan is the first step in a state review process that will include environmental analysis, public comment and hearings before the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin decides whether the project can proceed.

Wrightstown Village Administrator Travis Coenen said local officials were not contacted before the filing. We Energies said the plant would support Wisconsin's growing electricity needs and grid reliability. State regulators project peak demand will rise by more than 40% by 2032, with planned data center developments accounting for about 72% of the increase. If approved, construction could begin in 2029 and operations could start in late 2032, though costs, customer arrangements and environmental details remain unresolved.
