The City of Carrollton, Kentucky, entered into an exclusive real estate option contract with Poe Companies of Louisville on July 8, 2025, granting the developer the right to purchase 342 acres of city-owned land. This land is situated near the regional water treatment plant operated by the city and is intended for a large electrical project, presumably a data center.
The public announcement of this project did not occur until July 22, 2026, more than a year after the contract was signed. This delay in notification has raised concerns among residents, many of whom learned about the project through media reports. The Carrollton City attorney confirmed that Poe Companies has not yet exercised its option to purchase the land, which remains city property, and that a vote by the Carrollton City Council would be required before ownership could officially transfer.
Poe Companies, when questioned about the delayed community notice, stated that securing options to evaluate project feasibility is a standard real estate practice. While not directly addressing the delay in public notification, the company indicated it is now actively engaged in community outreach efforts.
