Data Center opposers dress in red and green during educational forum
A community forum in Mandan addressed Start Power's proposal to build a data center about five miles north of downtown. Residents opposed to data centers wore red and green, while industry panelists discussed grid reliability, eminent domain and other concerns.
Mandan hosted an educational forum Thursday about Start Power's proposed data center north of the city. Panelists from the energy industry, along with the mayor of Allendale, said they wanted to address what they described as misconceptions about data centers, including claims that projects could force landowners off their property through eminent domain.
The discussion also covered grid reliability and the potential effects of data centers on surrounding communities. Some attendees demonstrated opposition by wearing red and green, and others criticized the forum after several questions submitted by the public went unanswered.
