The Ligonier Township Board of Supervisors is preparing to host a public hearing on August 25th to gather community input on a proposed ordinance that seeks to amend the township's existing zoning code. A significant component of these updates involves the addition of new sections specifically governing data centers, detailing regulations for their construction and operational standards within the Industrial and Highway Commercial zoning districts.

Beyond data centers, the 15-page ordinance, available on the township's website, also proposes adjustments to regulations for solar energy systems, an expansion of permitted zones for public safety facilities such as police, fire, and ambulance stations, and measures to address a zoning loophole concerning nonconforming lots. Additionally, the ordinance introduces a definition for "seasonal markets" to clarify guidelines for local outdoor markets.

In other township business, the supervisors recently voted to apply for a $23,000 Local Share Account grant to acquire a road-milling tool. Separately, the Latrobe Bulletin expressed disappointment that the township has not responded to its concerns regarding potential violations of the state's Sunshine Act, despite the issue being discussed publicly by supervisors. The Bulletin's publisher, Joe Wells, stated the publication is evaluating its next steps regarding government transparency.
