The controversial topic of battery energy storage systems, or BESS, showed up on the Dorr Township planning commission's agenda for Tuesday night amid ongoing controversy in the township about a proposed data center tied to Microsoft. A larger than expected crowd in attendance forced the meeting to be moved to a larger room inside the township hall due to capacity concerns. Some residents told planning commissioners that they felt blindsided seeing the BESS topic listed, particularly as concerns about a data center are still being raised.
