Gov: City of Killeen Planning and Zoning Commission, Killeen City Council
The City of Killeen's Planning and Zoning Commission recently rejected a proposal for a $30 million data center, which would have been owned by OnMine and located on 2.615 acres on South Fort Hood Street. This decision came after more than an hour of explanation from OnMine representatives, who highlighted the potential for innovation, long-term value, and 14 new jobs, as well as their commitment not to use local water for cooling.
Despite the developer's presentation, residents and commission members expressed the need for more information. The commission ultimately voted 4-0 to deny the proposal, with one commissioner abstaining, citing a desire for further details. This rejection is part of a broader trend, with 300 data centers being proposed across Texas. Residents are now expected to attend the next Killeen City Council meeting on June 2nd to further voice their opposition to the data center.
