A proposed data center project by Oakley Real Estate Partners in Bartow County, Georgia, is encountering substantial community resistance. Residents of Cartersville packed a recent meeting to question developers about the 111-acre facility planned for Brown Farm Road, located within the Etowah Valley Historic District. The project necessitates a zoning change from agricultural land to proceed.

Lester Tate, attorney for Oakley Real Estate Partners, asserted the project would boost the local tax base, adhere to sound standards, and avoid impacting the Etowah River's water supply. Developers also mentioned an ongoing archaeological study and notifications to the Muscogee Creek and Cherokee Nations.

However, homeowners voiced strong concerns regarding potential noise pollution, excessive water usage, environmental ramifications, and a decline in property values. Opponent Alex Payne indicated that the developers' presentation failed to alleviate resident fears, particularly as the eventual data center operator remains unselected. The local planning and zoning board is scheduled to vote on the requested zoning change on July 27th, where community members intend to continue their vocal opposition.
