Proposed data center appears on Sioux City City Council agenda
An item on the Sioux City City Council agenda initially marked 720 acres in Morningside as a proposed data center location, but city officials later clarified this was a mistake by the Economic Development Department. Separately, a much-discussed data center proposal involving MidAmerican Energy and Google for a 900-acre site is set to go before the City Council this Wednesday night.
An unexpected item on the Sioux City City Council agenda initially drew attention by identifying 720 acres of land in the Morningside area as a proposed data center location. However, council members and city officials, including Public Works Director Tom Pingel and Economic and Community Development Director Marty Dougherty, stated this was a mistake. According to Pingel, the Economic Development Department had made a request to identify potential areas for future development, like a data center, but there are currently no plans for any data center on that specific property.
Meanwhile, a different and much-anticipated data center proposal is scheduled to return before the City Council this Wednesday night. This proposal involves MidAmerican Energy, which recently identified Google as a prospective customer for a 900-acre site that was annexed into the city limits earlier this year. Both MidAmerican Energy and Google are expected to have representatives present at Wednesday's meeting to provide information to the public.
