Raeden, a California-based company, is facing significant community opposition to its proposed artificial intelligence data center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The project, planned for a former Intel microchip manufacturing facility off Garden of the Gods Road, has prompted concerns among residents, particularly those living near the site at 1565 High Tech Way in the Chelsea Glen neighborhood. Residents have displayed "no data center" signs and are worried about the facility's extensive power and water requirements, as well as potential noise from its industrial chillers.
A second neighborhood meeting, hosted by Raeden, is scheduled to address these concerns. Residents recall issues with a previous cryptocurrency mine in the same building, operated by 3G Ventures, which generated unacceptable noise levels before going out of business. Despite Raeden's noise impact study indicating compliance with city limits, residents remain unconvinced. The Colorado Springs City Council has stated it cannot comment on the data center due to its "quasi-judicial" nature, indicating an ongoing formal review process for the project.
