Troy Planning Commission approves data center moratorium extension
The Troy Planning Commission unanimously approved an extension of the city's data center moratorium. The proposed extension, which still requires approval from the City Council, would last until March of next year. This pause allows city officials to observe potential state-level legislative changes regarding data center incentives and regulations.
The Troy Planning Commission voted 5-0 to approve the extension of the city's data center moratorium until next March, sending the proposal to the city council for final approval. The initial six-month moratorium was enacted in March following public opposition to data center developments in the region. City officials are seeking this extension to allow time to see what new legislation emerges from the state government's veto session in October or the next regular session of the state legislature, especially given that Illinois has paused its data center incentives.
During the same meeting, the commission also approved amendments to the city's bicycle and pedestrian master plan. Troy City Engineer Tom Cissell's request to include a shared-use path and sidewalk project for Route 162 between West Clay Street and Riggin Road was approved, along with a resolution to apply for an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant to fund about 90% of the estimated $5 million project. The commission also discussed a new grading plan ordinance and reviewed changes to the city's parking ordinance, both of which will be revisited in October.
