Northeast Louisiana seeing early benefits from Meta construction
Meta's $50 billion AI data center project in Holly Ridge, Louisiana, is already generating significant economic benefits for the Northeast Louisiana region, including increased sales tax revenues for parishes like Richland, Franklin, and Ouachita. The project has also attracted new businesses, such as Faith Technologies, and is fostering residential development and job creation.
Meta's $50 billion Hyperion AI data center project, located in Holly Ridge, Richland Parish, is bringing substantial economic benefits to Northeast Louisiana even before its anticipated operational date in 2030. Rob Cleveland, President of Grow NELA, reported that the ten parishes in the region collectively generated over $383 million in sales tax revenue in the first year, a $40 million increase. Richland Parish saw its first-quarter sales tax collections surge to $38 million, a sixfold increase, with Franklin and Ouachita Parishes also experiencing steady growth.
This economic boom is attracting new businesses, including Faith Technologies, which plans an $80 million investment and 200 new jobs in Ouachita Parish. The project, expected to be fully completed by 2032, will create 7,500 construction jobs and 1,000 permanent positions. Meta has also contributed $5 million to Louisiana Delta Community College for workforce training, aiming to establish Northeast Louisiana as a tech innovation hub.
