However, this expansion has met with strong opposition from many residents. Public meetings have been packed with community members advocating for a slowdown in data center development. Residents, including a retired Marine Corps veteran with a cancer diagnosis, have voiced concerns that new rezoning proposals are not about growth but about safety, fearing long-term impacts on air quality, water resources, property values, and health. They expressed a sentiment of fighting for their rights and preventing their voices from being silenced, noting that the issue extends beyond single data centers to the larger picture of approved developments.
