Versailles City Council approves data center moratorium
The Versailles City Council has approved a moratorium on data centers within the city limits. This moratorium, effective until December 31, 2026, will provide the Planning Commission and city government time to develop relevant ordinances. The resolution was based on a similar one recently passed by the Lexington Urban County Council.
The Versailles City Council voted on Tuesday, June 16, to approve a resolution enacting a moratorium on data centers within the city. Versailles Mayor Laura Dake announced via social media that the moratorium will remain in effect until December 31, 2026.
According to Mayor Dake, the purpose of this temporary halt is to allow the Planning Commission and the city government sufficient time to thoroughly review and consider potential ordinances pertaining to data center development. She noted that the Versailles resolution was specifically modeled after a similar data center moratorium that was passed by the Lexington Urban County Council on June 9. Mayor Dake expressed satisfaction with the council's decision, stating her appreciation for their prompt action.
