Menasha adopted a one-year moratorium on development of large-scale data centers. City officials say the pause will provide time to draft zoning requirements, and the moratorium could be extended by six months if work on the zoning code continues.

The city of Menasha, Wisconsin, adopted a one-year moratorium on the development of large-scale data centers. Development Director Andrew Dane said the pause will give the city time to create zoning requirements for such projects.

Alderman Chris Rand noted that Menasha itself consumes data center output. Under state law, the city may extend the moratorium for an additional six months if it can demonstrate that work on the zoning code is continuing.
