Cumberland County residents express concerns over potential data center
Residents in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, are expressing strong opposition to the final approval plans for the PAC-1 Data Center project, citing concerns over noise, light, and environmental impact. A key vote on the project's final plans is scheduled for May 6, following a lengthy preliminary planning commission meeting.
Residents of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, particularly those in Middlesex Township, are vocally opposing the final approval plans for a proposed data center. Concerns include potential loud noises, bright lights, environmental impacts, and a perceived lack of transparency from the township and developers. The Middlesex Township Planning Commission held a meeting on Monday night to discuss the preliminary land development plan for the "PAC-1 Data Center" project, located off Country Club Road, with the session extending past 11 p.m.
Developers claim the nearly 700-acre project would create 1,400 construction jobs, hundreds of permanent jobs, and generate tax revenue for local schools. However, residents are worried about its effect on home values and health. A final vote on the project is scheduled for May 6. Concurrently, the Cumberland County Planning Commission, Dickinson College, and Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation are hosting a general information session on April 29.
