Roanoke-area authority confirms data center plans
The Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority has confirmed Clearview Dynamics' plans to evaluate a site in Roanoke County for a data center. The authority approved a deal for the parcel despite local opposition, citing economic and fiscal benefits for the localities. Clearview Dynamics is currently conducting its due diligence phase, including various engineering, utility, and environmental reviews.
The Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority (WVRIFA) has confirmed that Clearview Dynamics is evaluating a site in the Wood Haven Technology Park in Roanoke County, Virginia, for a new data center. Earlier this month, the WVRIFA, which represents Roanoke city, Roanoke County, and four other localities, voted to enter into a deal with Clearview Dynamics for the parcel, despite vocal opposition from data center opponents.
John Hull, the WVRIFA's executive director, expressed confidence in the project, stating it represents a significant economic development and fiscal benefit, projecting data centers can produce 10 times the revenue of an equivalent-sized manufacturer. Clearview Dynamics has committed to being a responsible community partner and will comply with Governor Abigail Spanberger’s recent executive order. The company is currently in a due diligence phase, conducting engineering and geotechnical assessments, utility capacity studies, and environmental reviews. If the project proceeds, the data center will draw water from the Spring Hollow Reservoir through the Western Virginia Water Authority.
