Former International Paper site in Natchez being considered for data center

Adams County, Mississippi, officials are in the early stages of considering the former International Paper Co. mill site in Natchez for a potential data center development. Chandler Russ, executive director of Natchez Inc., the county's economic development agency, confirmed that he and members of the Adams County Board of Supervisors have signed a non-disclosure agreement, preventing them from discussing specific clients or projects. Russ emphasized that the project is "a long way from this" and aims to manage public expectations.
Despite the confidentiality, general discussions have addressed common concerns associated with data centers. Russ highlighted that the Natchez site offers an abundant water supply, noting that even a data center using 3 million gallons per day would be significantly less than the 40 million gallons International Paper Co. used daily for 52 years. Furthermore, potential electricity infrastructure upgrades required by such a project could benefit the entire region. Noise concerns are also deemed a "non-issue" due to the proposed industrial park location. District 3 Supervisor Angela Hutchins, president of the Adams County Board of Supervisors, also declined to comment due to the NDA but indicated that more information would be available soon.
