Plans for a proposed eight-building, 2.5-million-square-foot data center near Brighton's Loch Buie neighborhood were withdrawn after residents learned of the project and raised concerns. The Brighton City Council approved a proposed data center moratorium on first reading and expanded it from six months to one year, though a second reading is required.

Former television journalist Stacy Baca obtained Brighton records showing an application to rezone land for Silo, a planned data center complex with eight buildings totaling about 2.5 million square feet. The site would have been near the Loch Buie neighborhood and an elementary school, prompting residents to question potential effects on their homes, health and community.

The application was withdrawn one day before a Brighton City Council meeting at which residents pushed for a moratorium. The companies connected to the proposal did not respond to 9NEWS questions, and the city said no other data center application was pending. Council members approved a moratorium on first reading and extended its proposed duration from six months to one year; a second reading is still required for final adoption.
