Planning and Zoning Commission approves data center

The San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission approved a proposed data center project on a 199.19-acre plot of land on Francis Harris Lane. The decision came after a lengthy public hearing where residents voiced concerns over water usage, environmental impact, and the rise of artificial intelligence. However, the commission accepted the plans after hearing from the project's managing partner, who touted the economic benefits and job opportunities for local union workers. The city council is set to hold a public hearing on the project in February 2026.
