Livingston Parish president meets with NextEra amid data center speculation
Livingston Parish President Randy Delatte met with NextEra as the company seeks permits for a 500-megawatt battery storage facility. The project’s potential customer has not been disclosed, fueling speculation that it could support a future data center, although no data center proposal has been confirmed.
Livingston Parish President Randy Delatte met with NextEra, which is pursuing approval for a 500-megawatt battery storage facility in the parish. NextEra has not disclosed who would buy the stored electricity, and the Livingston Parish Economic Development Agency said it would not discuss the project while negotiations remain active.
The secrecy has prompted speculation that the facility could help power a data center, though the company has not confirmed that possibility. Delatte said he has not signed a nondisclosure agreement and would not approve a related project until officials address potential effects on noise, water, electricity rates, drainage and traffic. He also noted that a nearby data center in West Feliciana Parish uses about 1 gigawatt, roughly twice the proposed battery facility's capacity.
