Puente Hills Mall proposed for conversion to data center
A proposal would convert the largely vacant Puente Hills Mall in City of Industry into a mixed-use development including a data center. Bob Gale, co-creator of Back to the Future, said he opposes the project if it supports surveillance or requires substantial power and land.
Puente Hills Mall in City of Industry, California, the filming location for the fictional Twin Pines Mall in Back to the Future, could be redeveloped with warehouses, a bus transit station and a data center. The shopping center is now largely vacant, apart from an AMC theater and an entertainment venue.
Bob Gale, the film’s co-creator, co-writer and co-producer, told The Independent that he was opposed to a data center if it would facilitate government or corporate surveillance. He also criticized the power demands and physical footprint of data centers, while joking that he would prefer the facility not be named Twin Pines Data Center.
