Hanover Development Limited Partnership has withdrawn its applications for a proposed 150,000-square-foot data center in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County. The developer is considering building single-family homes instead, but that plan would require residential rezoning, which the township is not obligated to approve.

Hanover Development Limited Partnership principal Robert Downs confirmed that applications for a proposed 150,000-square-foot data center on 37 acres in Upper Hanover Township have been withdrawn. A related zoning challenge was also withdrawn after months of controversy over the conditional-use proposal.

The developer is considering replacing the data center with single-family homes, but the property is currently zoned Light Industrial and would require approval for residential use. Upper Hanover Township Manager Anne Klepfer said the township was relieved by the withdrawal and estimated that the applications had cost taxpayers nearly $20,000. The township board directed Downs to submit a rezoning application and professional-services agreement if he wants to pursue the housing proposal.
