Supervisor Chair Kevin Hardin clarified that the ordinance is intended to halt new cryptomining developments until the county's zoning department can establish specific rules and regulations for their construction. The board opted to delay waiving the second and third readings of the ordinance, scheduling the second reading for their next meeting on September 15th, allowing for broader public attendance.
This new proposal follows a previously enacted Ordinance 26-1, an 18-month moratorium on general data center development in unincorporated Louisa County, which is also set to remain in effect until zoning guidelines are established.
