Delhi Township trustees unanimously approved a resolution opposing all data center development in the township, including a proposed 700-megawatt facility in Holt backed by Lighthouse Sustainability and the Lansing Economic Area Partnership. The action followed strong public opposition over potential noise, environmental, water and electricity impacts, while the township remains under a data center moratorium through April 2027.

The Delhi Charter Township Board of Trustees voted 6-0 to formally oppose any data center development in the township and urged Lighthouse Sustainability and the Lansing Economic Area Partnership to stop pursuing a proposed hyperscale facility. The proposed 700-megawatt project would occupy 423 acres at the Holt Economic Opportunity Park and was announced by Lighthouse co-founders Gary Dorris and Paul Saferstein and LEAP President and CEO Bob Trezise.

The resolution followed a meeting attended by about 300 people, with most speakers opposing the project and citing concerns about noise, environmental effects, water consumption, electricity demand and costs to residents. Township officials said they had received 360 emails opposing the project, compared with 13 neutral comments and eight in support.

Dorris asked trustees to delay the vote, arguing that residents needed more information and that a formal review had not begun. The township had already imposed a one-year data center moratorium and later severed ties with LEAP. The proposal offered substantial tax revenue and community benefits, including a $20 million fund and a residential solar and battery program, but trustees proceeded with the opposition resolution.
