Proposed TIF district in Rockford excludes data centers from incentives
The City of Rockford is advancing a proposed Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district on its south side that would explicitly exclude data centers from receiving financial incentives. While data centers could still be built in the area, they would not be eligible for TIF assistance, according to city officials. This plan is now moving forward to the City Council for approval.
The City of Rockford is proposing a new Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district for the south side of the city, specifically an industrial area south of the Rockford Airport. City officials announced that the redevelopment plan for this TIF district includes language that expressly prohibits data centers from being eligible for financial assistance or incentives through the district.
This means that while a data center could still be constructed in the designated area, it would not receive the financial benefits typically associated with TIF incentives. Much of the land within this proposed district is reportedly part of a site for a potential large-scale data center. The proposal is now progressing to the City Council for further consideration, marking a significant policy decision regarding data center development in Rockford.
