Anthropic-tied data center moves ahead with $366M construction
A $366 million data center campus known as Project Longhorn is moving forward in Cedar Creek, southeast of Austin, with construction expected to begin in late November. The project is reportedly in talks with Anthropic and follows a temporary pause on new state data center permits ordered by Gov. Greg Abbott.
Project Longhorn, a planned $366 million data center campus near Earl Callahan Road and Walter Hoffman Road in Cedar Creek, is expected to begin construction in late November and be completed by January 2028. Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings describe a 498,165-square-foot data center building and related site work.
The project is reportedly in talks with California-based artificial intelligence company Anthropic. Its progress was temporarily affected by Gov. Greg Abbott’s September order pausing new state permits for data center projects, but the development now appears to be moving ahead. Separately, EdgeConneX is developing three Cedar Creek-area campuses with an estimated combined cost of $5.84 billion and has filed plans for two additional buildings valued at $1.2 billion.
