Piedmont, Oklahoma residents are strongly opposing a proposed data center project by the company Beltline. During a packed city council meeting, residents expressed significant concerns about the potential impacts of the facility, including noise, substantial water usage, increased property taxes, and traffic congestion. One resident, Angie Crawford, who has lived in Piedmont for most of her life, stated, "We don’t want it," expressing fear that the company, described as being from Georgia, would destroy the town. City officials had previously visited data centers in Atlanta, Georgia, at the incentive of Beltline, to observe their operations. Although no decisions were made at the recent city council meeting, the Piedmont Planning and Zoning Commission announced its intention to hold a meeting to discuss the planned unit development for the data center. A date for this crucial meeting has not yet been released.
