Data center opponents rallied at the Oregon State Capitol, advocating for a three-year moratorium on new projects, a ban on public incentives, and increased local input. Both Governor Tina Kotek and Senator Christine Drazan publicly supported statewide moratoriums on data centers. This shift in political stance reflects growing public sentiment against the industry ahead of the November election.

About 200 data center opponents rallied on the Capitol steps Tuesday afternoon, calling for a three-year ban on new projects. Speakers said they’re pushing for a ban on public incentives and nondisclosure agreements for the industry, more local input on data center construction and protections for Oregon’s air and water.
Democratic Gov. Tina Kotek and her Republican opponent, Sen. Christine Drazan, both called for statewide moratoriums on data centers Tuesday, converging on the same position within hours of each other after years of more cautious stances on the hot-button issue.
The change comes as public sentiment sours on the industry ahead of the November election.
