Gov: Butte City Commissioners, Butte Economic Leaders

Butte city commissioners and economic leaders traveled to Quincy, Washington, in late March to tour a Sabey Data Center. The purpose of the trip was to evaluate the potential impacts of a proposed 600-acre data center facility that Sabey Data Centers is considering building south of Butte, Montana, within the Montana Connections Industrial Park.

Upon their return, representatives expressed a better understanding of data center operations. Some believe the proposed facility would significantly benefit Butte through job creation and increased tax revenue, which could support community development projects like new schools and fire stations, as observed in Quincy.

Commissioner Russir, who previously voiced concerns, reported largely positive feedback from Quincy residents. While traffic and population growth were mentioned as considerations, they were not seen as overwhelmingly negative. Sabey Data Centers has a deadline of August to make its decision regarding the Butte project, and local officials are seeking more detailed information about projected tax revenues for future budgeting.
