Project Blue Protesters return to construction site Thursday morning
Protesters organized by the No Desert Data Center Coalition returned to the Project Blue construction site in Tucson, Arizona, to oppose a data center project. They voiced concerns about the desert environment and water usage, while Beale Infrastructure, the developer, defended the project's economic benefits and water plans.
Protesters from the No Desert Data Center Coalition returned to the Project Blue construction site on Houghton St. in Tucson, Arizona, to continue their opposition to the data center development. Led by lifelong Tucsonans like Sabine and Steve Harrington, the group expressed deep concern for the Sonoran Desert and accused the developing companies of not caring about the local community or environment. They vowed to escalate pressure until the project is abandoned.
In response, Beale Infrastructure, the company behind the "Houghton Road Data Center," stated the facility's operational water use would be comparable to two or three sit-down restaurants, primarily for domestic purposes. The company affirmed that water supply outside Tucson Water has been secured, and extensive modeling ensures no impact on surrounding wells. Beale Infrastructure also highlighted the project's anticipated positive economic impacts for Pima County, including job creation and investments in workforce development and education.
