DC BLOX's proposed data center adjacent to the Nashville Zoo has faced "public outcry" due to the developer's failure to engage with zoo officials and the district councilmember prior to the announcement. The Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development advised the company to discuss the location with relevant parties and later declined to offer incentives for the $700 million project. Environmental concerns regarding stormwater runoff are also a factor.

Digital infrastructure developer DC BLOX is facing scrutiny over its proposed 23.5-acre data center campus, slated for construction adjacent to the Nashville Zoo. Critics, including the Mayor's Office and the Nashville Zoo, contend that DC BLOX failed to adequately engage with key stakeholders before publicly announcing the estimated $700 million project.

According to Alex Apple, a spokesperson for Mayor Freddie O’Connell, the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development met with DC BLOX in February. During this meeting, the developer was advised to discuss the proposed location with both the Nashville Zoo and the district councilmember. However, in a subsequent meeting in March, the mayor's office opted not to offer incentives for the project.

Leah Trice, spokesperson for the Nashville Zoo, confirmed that the zoo was not consulted by DC BLOX prior to the project's announcement, instead learning about the plans through a May 20 news article. The lack of proactive engagement has fueled public backlash.

Further concerns have been raised regarding potential environmental impacts. The article highlights that stormwater runoff from the proposed data center site could significantly affect already-degrading waterways situated on Nashville Zoo property, adding another layer of complexity to the development proposal.
