Data center noise lawsuit
Residents in Racine County, Wisconsin, have filed a class-action lawsuit against Microsoft, alleging excessive noise from its Mount Pleasant AI Data Center. They claim the constant humming sound interferes with their sleep and property values due to inadequate soundproofing.
Residents in Racine County, Wisconsin, have initiated a class-action lawsuit against Microsoft, citing excessive noise emanating from the company's Mount Pleasant AI Data Center. WISN 12 News had previously reported on these resident complaints in March, noting concerns over a persistent humming sound.
The lawsuit asserts that the noise disrupts residents' sleep, their ability to enjoy their homes, and has led to a reduction in property values. The plaintiffs contend that Microsoft failed to install sufficient soundproofing equipment, acoustic barriers, or low-noise cooling systems at the facility.
In response, Microsoft issued a statement acknowledging the lawsuit concerning its Village of Mount Pleasant facility. The company reiterated its commitment to being a "good neighbor" in the communities where it constructs, owns, and operates its data centers. Microsoft had announced last month that the Mount Pleasant data center is fully operational and houses a powerful supercomputer.
