Lineage Files Permits to Rebuild Fire-Damaged Warehouse in Boyle Heights
Lineage and property owner Chill Build Los Angeles filed permits to repair and rebuild a fire-damaged cold-storage warehouse in Boyle Heights. The applications are pending city review, while Mayor Karen Bass has publicly opposed rebuilding until the site is cleaned up and community concerns are addressed.
Lineage and Chill Build Los Angeles submitted two permit applications to repair and rebuild the fire-damaged cold-storage warehouse in Boyle Heights, including a like-for-like repair of the electrical system. The applications propose restoring the structure to its pre-fire condition without changing its footprint, size, height, use or occupancy. The filings followed a Los Angeles code enforcement order requiring the owner to obtain permits and remove damaged portions of the building.
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety and the Los Angeles Department of City Planning will determine whether the work can proceed through standard permitting or requires additional review. Mayor Karen Bass has taken an increasingly firm stance against reconstruction, saying Lineage should focus on cleaning up the site and criticizing the company over impacts on Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles residents. The permit applications begin the review process but do not authorize construction.
