POLL: Should Lubbock City Council pay rise above $25 a month?
The Lubbock City Council is preparing to discuss charter amendments, including council compensation and the city’s authority over utility and development issues. Councilman David Bruegel also said the city should preserve authority to limit water commitments and address environmental risks from future data centers, while describing a proposed settlement with Red Canyon Development.
The Lubbock City Council is scheduled to review possible city charter amendments, though no specific pay proposal is listed on the agenda. Councilman David Bruegel said he would support any council pay increase only for future members and discussed broader questions involving the city’s initiative and referendum process and electrical utility.
Bruegel also addressed a proposed settlement involving Red Canyon Development over South Quaker paving costs after the elimination of impact fees. Separately, he said Lubbock should retain authority to limit water commitments and mitigate environmental impacts if another data center developer seeks to build in the city. Tuesday’s agenda item would add data-center resource and infrastructure impacts to the city’s legislative priorities, rather than enact a local data-center ordinance.
