Louisville leaders debate hyper-scale data center restrictions
Louisville Metro leaders discussed proposed restrictions on hyperscale data centers, including measures intended to protect nearby families and the environment. No decision was made, and officials plan to gather more information before voting.
The Louisville Metro Planning and Zoning Committee reviewed recommendations for regulating large, hyperscale data centers in Louisville. The proposed restrictions are intended to address potential effects on families and the environment, but some leaders warned that overly strict rules could discourage companies from locating in the city.
Councilman Stuart Benson said the regulations could push prospective developers toward areas outside Louisville, such as Elizabethtown or communities across the Ohio River. The committee took no action and will continue gathering information before a vote.
