Three commissioners—Tal Siddique, Amanda Ballard, and Bob McCann—have submitted individual proposals advocating for a temporary halt on accepting data center applications. During this pause, the county intends to conduct a comprehensive study and formulate stringent local regulations. Commissioner Siddique's proposal highlights the "significant risk" of unregulated data center proposals, while Commissioner Ballard points to the substantial demands on regional water supplies, treatment infrastructure, and electrical grid capacity. Commissioner McCann's proposal specifically calls for a one-year moratorium, emphasizing the potential for "millions of gallons of water daily" to degrade aquifers and trigger droughts.
