A data center project is proposed for a portion of the Starbucks headquarters building in Seattle. The plan involves converting over 45,000 square feet into server space and is considered "small scale," falling below the threshold of a one-year moratorium recently enacted by the Seattle City Council on large data centers. The project is currently awaiting approval.

A new data center project is being proposed for a section of the iconic Soto building in Seattle, which currently houses Starbucks headquarters. Documents filed with the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections reveal plans to convert more than 45,000 square feet of the space into servers, storage, and networking equipment. It is important to note that the group owning the building is spearheading this project, not Starbucks itself.

This development comes shortly after the Seattle City Council enacted a one-year moratorium on new "large" data centers within city limits. However, the newly proposed data center is considered "small scale" and falls below the size threshold defined by the moratorium. The project is presently awaiting official approval from city authorities.
