Congressman Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia has introduced a national plan aimed at regulating data center development. The proposal seeks to implement special electricity rates for large users like data centers, preventing these costs from being shifted to residential households. Additionally, the plan advocates for strategically locating data centers and associated power lines away from sensitive areas such as homes, schools, and historic parks.
Congressman Subramanyam also highlighted the current lack of a comprehensive security strategy for data center facilities and their critical power infrastructure.
