Brownsburg Town Council Restricts Data Centers on Newly Annexed Logistics Center Land
The Brownsburg Town Council approved the annexation and rezoning for the Reagan I-74 Logistics Center, but removed data centers as a permitted use on the newly annexed property. Council President Ben Lacey cited concerns about Brownsburg's infrastructure and water capacity as reasons for the restriction.
The Brownsburg Town Council recently approved the final annexation and rezoning necessary for the Reagan I-74 Logistics Center. During its June 25 meeting, the council unanimously approved the conditional rezoning of a 4.47-acre parcel from agricultural to I2 industrial, marking the completion of the 317.5-acre logistics center which had previous phases annexed and rezoned in 2024.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the council's decision to remove data centers as a permitted use on the newly annexed property. Council President Ben Lacey raised concerns about the town's infrastructure and water capacity, stating his belief that the town's resources could not support such developments.
While the applicant's attorney noted that data centers were initially included as they are a permitted use in the town's general zoning ordinance and matched prior project approvals, they did not object to their removal from the specific commitments for this parcel. Planning Director Elizabeth Williams confirmed that this change would make the zoning more restrictive and would not require further review by the Advisory Plan Commission.
The council proceeded to amend the commitments to exclude data centers before unanimously approving both the rezoning and the subsequent annexation ordinance after a public hearing that received no comments.
